About Steel-Pro: A Maine, Employee-Owned Company
Company Overview:
Located in beautiful mid-coast Maine, Steel-Pro is a custom manufacturer of ASME code pressure vessels, biopharmaceutical equipment, vacuum chambers, storage tanks, sanitary vessels, and other custom-designed equipment. Steel-Pro was started in 1978 by Don Wilson and Fred Carey, then known as the fabrication portion of a former fish rendering plant, SeaPro. In 1983, Fred Carey wished to purchase the company from SeaPro’s parent company, Zapata Corporation out of Houston, TX. Fred was able to find a partner in Chris Beebe, former Principal at Norwalk Fabricators in Connecticut, and the two purchased the fabrication portion of the business and have turned it into, what is known today as, Steel-Pro. In 2014, it was converted to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Steel-Pro and it’s Employee-Owners continue to thrive today.
